Styles
When choosing vinyl windows first consider style. By far the most popular is the double-hung window (left), where you have movable sashes top and bottom. Casement windows crank open in an arc left or right. Since the entire window space can be open, they allow more airflow than double-hung windows. Third most popular is the horizontal slider, in which one or both sashes move sideways.
Awning windows push open from the bottom and are popular in bathrooms. Hopper windows open from the top and are most often found in basements. To add drama to a room, consider a bay or bow window. Bay windows, which jut out at 30, 45 or 90 degree angles, expand the room with an alcove where you can set objects such as plants. Bow windows (above) create a panoramic effect. Of course, many types and sizes of picture windows are available.
Count on Quality
It used to be that you had to be careful when selecting insulated windows. Many products would lose their seal and fog up over time.
